In The Black: Where’s my refund?
Refunds delayed for those requesting paper checks
If you had a refund and didn’t provide your banking information, your refund could be late. VERY LATE! The IRS is moving to have all refunds processed electronically, so taxpayers who requested a paper check or just didn’t give their bank information and were due a refund face a long and complicated process. The first thing that will happen is that you’ll receive a CP53E notice instead of a check (so make sure you are opening all your mail in a timely fashion!). This notice will direct you to update your bank information on your IRS online account within 30 days.
Don't have an IRS account? You’ll need to create one.
Just want to give the information to the IRS over the phone? No dice.
Miss the 30-day window? It’s unclear what the next steps will be.
Best-case scenario - you should get your refund in about 10 weeks once you jump through these hoops. If all this talk has you feeling antsy about your Federal refund, you can always check its status at: https://www.irs.gov/refunds
April 15th: The time is nigh!
The tax deadline is upon us - if you don’t have everything in already, you are likely going on extension.
If you do have outstanding items or questions, or you haven’t scheduled a call, please get to it ASAP!!!
